- Purley CR8 is part of the London Borough of Croydon. The area, situated in South London, dates back to 1200, when its name was mentioned for the first time. The meaning of the district means “Peartree wood or clearing”. Nowadays Purley is large suburban area with population about 72,000 people.
- Purley became a preferred place to live in 1920s – 1930s, because of the spacious green places and the comfortable accommodations. Before the World War II Purley was home of the Joachim Von Ribbentrop- a devoted associate to Adolf Hitler. That is why the local people thought that the town was never been bombed when the war began. However, the place was heavily bombed later and left in ruins.
Kenley Aerodrome is one of the most popular fighter stations and it is a popular area where learner pilots can practise their skills. The base was especially important during the World War I and the World War II.
