Household Commodities Can Be Used To Clean The House Clean
29 September 2008 – 6:45 pmCleaning the house, most often causes a problem for every homemaker. In the market lots of readymade cleaning products are available now. Most of them are expensive and not good for health. Moreover these products are also hazardous to our environment.
As all of us are aware of the climate change and the experts blame it over the inefficient waste management and green house effects. Now it is time to think how to overcome it. For the solution you don’t have to wander too much. The solutions lie in you and your lifestyle. Practice a healthy lifestyle for a healthier world and then publicize those practices to the world. By cleaning we make sure that we are living in a healthy space. But sometimes it produces negative results. Most of the branded cleansing products available in the market are quite harmful .You can produce wonderful cleaning products at home using the easily available items at home. Believe me those are much effective than the readymade ones and will not stretch our budget.
At home, we can see and make use of some amazing cleaning products from lime, vinegar, baking soda and olive oil.
Lemon juice is a natural cleaning product for your home. Lemon juice can be used to dissolve soap scum and hard water deposits on vessels, taps etc. Most of your houses have antique collection of brass and copper. Rub that occasionally using lime juice which will produce shining. Lime juice and vinegar can be mixed together to produce cleansing paste for vessels. Lime scrubs can be made by cutting a lime and dipping it on soda powder which can be used for cleaning oily vessels. Lemon peel can be stored in the refrigerator and garbage tin as a freshener.
Vinegar is also an all-purpose cleaner. Spray one measure of vinegar and one measure of water for cleaning different parts of the house. Vinegar which is cheaply available is a disinfectant as well as deodorizer and can be used in any part of the house. But always test a small area to be cleansed before applying. Marble surfaces shouldn’t be wiped with vinegar. It can be used in bathrooms for cleaning floors, bath tub, and toilet bowl. Kitchen floors, stove, counter tops can also be cleaned using vinegar. Vinegar is a natural fabric softener which is extremely good for those who are allergic to detergents.
Baking soda can be used instead of deodorants. It is an excellent product for deodorising carpets. Sprinkle baking powder over the carpet and wait for 10-15 minutes. Vacuum the carpet and you will see amazing effects. Baking powder can be used to open a clogged drain. Mix equal amounts of baking powder and salt and apply it over the clogged drain. Pour boiling water over it and keep the solution overnight. Next day when you turn on the tap the clog will not be there. Wooden furniture can be cleaned with a solution of olive oil and lemon juice at the ratio 2:1.
These basic ingredients are used by our grandmothers and great-grandmothers and we can also follow their path to “go natural” motto.
