Hard floor cleaning is quite a difficult task. The daily dust and grime of your soiled shoes, slippers and feet dirty the floors easily. The floors can be cleaned effectively and efficiently if you know your floor type well. Floor cleaning methods are different for floors made of different materials. The different types of flooring materials are asphalt tiles, bricks, ceramic tiles, concrete, flagstone, slate, marble, quarry tiles, rubber tiles, terrazzo, vinyl, wooden and linoleum. The best way to protect your floors is to cover them up with rugs or carpets. You can place good door matting at entranceways to trap dust and grime.

Heavy Duty Floor Cleaning: You can easily prepare a heavy duty floor cleaning solution at home. This floor cleaning solution works very well for glazed ceramic tile, asphalt, unglazed ceramic tile, flagstone, slate and concrete floors. The extra tough dust, grime and dirt are removed by the solution. The solution is prepared by mixing one fourth cup of low-suds, all purpose cleaner, one cup of ammonia and half a gallon of cold water. Be very careful while using this strong floor cleaning solution, and the use of rubber gloves is advised. You must also work in a nicely ventilated area when using this heavy duty solution. The solution has to be applied to the floor using a sponge mop. Use slightly more pressure on the largely soiled areas. Afterwards rinse with clear cold water and you will see the floor sparkling with a new shine and spotless look. Later, dry the floor with a soft cloth.

Cleaning Hardwood Floors: The best way to clean hardwood floors is to use a damp cloth or mop. Before you mop the floor, remove all the dust from the surface of the floor. You can use a light weight vacuum cleaner or a soft broom for this purpose. After this, you can mop the floor, rinse the mop and repeat the process. The hardwood floors can be cleaned by removing the dirt, grime and grit. There is availability of many hardwood floor cleaning solutions in the market. You would require a cleanser of low pH and it is quite effective when used with normal water. If the hardwood flooring has any worn out patches, they must be sealed properly before mopping. The hardwood floors can be given an extra shine by mopping with polish or wax or buffing it with wax.

If the floor has stains, then you can use a very fine type of steel wool to do away with the stains. The stains from the floor can also be removed by using little bit of alcohol. If the stains still remain after this, then you have to sand down the area with sandpaper.

Cleaning Laminate Floors: The laminated floors can be cleaned with a solution of vinegar and water. The proportion of this solution is 1/4 cup of vinegar and 32 ounce of plain water. You have to spray this solution on the floor and then wipe it off with a damp terry mop.

You can buy the cleansers available for different types of floors and floor finishes in the market and clean the floors as per the instructions. Be careful while using solvent based products on linoleum floor.
