Cleaning Services Again In-House At The NHS

Cleaning staff at the Royal Preston Hospital received new uniforms as a part of the takeover cleaning services from private provider to in-house.

From Tuesday 1 July 2008, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust took over cleaning services at Royal Preston Hospital, based in Fulwood, Preston.

Cleaning services at Royal Preston Hospital were previously run by Sodexo but as part of the Trust’s commitment to improving infection control, the termination of outsourcing these services was given the go ahead. More than 1.5 million has been invested during 2008 to improve toilet and bathroom facilities on wards, roll out new ward curtains, replace chairs and furnishings in general waiting areas and install new bedpan disposal units.

Other improvements include removing and cleaning air extraction units, radiator covers and ward computer keyboards, replacing damaged worktops and deep cleaning or replacing wheelchairs and trolleys if necessary.

That should have been done years ago. Outsourcing of the cleaning services at NHS sites was a time bomb waiting to explode. And it did. Obviously someone has been taking notes.
