Clean laundry

Is there anything better than the smell of fresh, clean laundry? Whether you’ve just brought it in from the clothesline or have used a fresh dryer sheet, clean laundry is one of the best feeling sensations!

Clean laundry is also a time consuming chore. You need to separate it, sort it, pre treat it, wash it, dry it, fold it, and finally, put it away. It’s no wonder that most families set aside one day out of the week to do laundry, ever since grandma set aside on entire day, it seems you still need to do that, even with the modern conveniences of the electric washer and dryer. If you need to streamline your laundry process, these tips will help you make the most out of that one day a week, and could even include you getting the laundry clean in time to do something fun!

  • Clothes dry faster if the lint trap is clean. Don’t let the dust bunnies pile up, clean out the lint trap after every load.
  • If you must wash small loads, set the washer dial to the appropriate setting. Even better, only wash full limit loads. This saves on water consumption and keeps you from forgetting the change the load size on the dial. Clean laundry needs room to agitate, so make sure the amount in the washer is equal to how much water you need to get the laundry clean.
  • People are very particular about their laundry soap. Once you’ve found a brand you like, it’s hard to switch, but if you can, try a clean laundry tab instead of measuring out liquid or powdered soap.
  • Are you setting your kids up to enable them to not have to put away they’re own clothes? Rethink how high up hooks and railings are in their closets. Lowering them to the right height will allow them to put away their own clean laundry.
  • Don’t spend time sorting laundry by color. Invest in three section laundry hampers and throw the dirty laundry into the right compartment the first time. That way, instead of washing each family member’s clothes separately, you can wash all the colors at once. (For example, your whites alone aren’t enough for a full load, but when you swoop in and grab everyone’s whites out of their “whites” basket, you have a full load.) Saves on water and time!
  • Stay on top of when the dryer will be done, so you don’t forget and leave clothes in there to rewrinkle. If it does happen, though, adding a damp washrag and turning it on for a few minutes will work as well as ironing, and take less time!
  • When shopping, if you find a sale on your favorite laundry supplies, stock up on them.
  • Overloading the washer or the dryer is very bad. The clothes will not come out as clean, the dry ones will not come out without wrinkles, and overloading the electric appliances could result in motor burn out or even fire. Stuffing as much as you can into a load does not save time; it only makes for more work in the long run.
  • If you have several articles of clothing that need pretreating, treat them all at once by adding the pretreatment to a small bucket and letting them all soak at once.
